I will admit that I have been putting off these posts because there is just so much to write about! The folks at Robert Kaufman had tons of new stuff to show at market and were very excited to share it all. One corner of the booth featured Kaufman’s Kona solids and the quilts created [...]
Here is a very cheery, retro 60s-70s apple print from The Heyday Shop on Etsy. This shop is based in Taiwan and has lots of fabrics billed as Japanese that I’ve never seen before, definitely one to keep an eye on if you’re looking for something unique!
More fancied-up stripes. Vintage cotton fabric, 2 1/2 yards, $42 from Dewitt & Co.
Stripe = two-way in most cases. The vines in this print from Japanese shop Pindot are also oriented right-side-up and upside-down, so this is a two-way print. But remember that a print’s directionality is defined by the most restrictive layer — if the alternating stripes weren’t flipped here, the print would be one-way. Oh and [...]
The theme: Ships and Sea (and stripes!) The fabric: 50s boats from the collection of thefabricofmylife (shop: Donna Flower) on Flickr.
(feed readers, click over to see a slideshow of this collection) Michael Miller Fabrics has a few new collections out, including Happy Tones, shown above. Aqua blue, coral red, and citron (yellow-green) are a modern twist on the old primary color scheme, and here they’re accented with black and gray. MM is doing a lot [...]
Straight repeats Stripe repeat Plaid repeat Houndstooth design This same teacher has an easy to understand Intro to Illustrator series starting here. She is a fashion teacher (with an interest in designing fashions for Second Life (!)) so the lessons are geared toward textile people.
I wasn’t sure you’d want to see a whole slideshow of just stripes and polka dots in different scales, so I just included a couple images here. But you can see the entire set of Lecien’s Color Basic Vol. 2 in my True Up Flickr account or on the Lecien website. I think I’ve mentioned [...]
(feed readers: please click over to see the slideshow, if you don’t mind!) I want to know more about Urban Chiks, who design for Moda. The website doesn’t name names, but says: These two young designers each bring something very different to the drawing board. One has a background in fashion and a flare for [...]
One feedsack design, four colorways from the Feedsack Friday: Colorways on the Rickrack Rag. Sharon of Rickrack.com (Sharon’s Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles) has been writing a great series about feedsacks — there’s a new installment every Friday on her Rickrack Rag blog. The topics so far: Feedsacks: The Great American Recycling Experiment Polka Dots [...]
Vintage hand-painted costume textile, labeled 1939, from Etsy seller Idleholler. 1/2 yard, 41″ wide, for $8.00.
From Hillary Lang on Flickr. It looks like rick-rack at first glance, but look closer, the wavy lines are too wonky for that.
