Oh boy, am I ever crazy about this retro Scandinavian (?) kitchen print. It’s a cotton-linen blend from Yuwa, spotted at Retrosaria in Portugal. I haven’t seen it in any other shops in the U.S. or abroad, but if I do, I’ll let you know.
Just a random cute Japanese print, described as “Retro-Kawaii style of Showa-era” by seller FabHub on Etsy.
EmilyMe is one of the most unusual shops I’ve ever featured on True Up (previous post here). Her fabrics are hand-printed by a family operation in Bangkok that has been in business since the 50s. They print only about 30 yards of each design (taken from their archive of over 1,000 designs) on a cotton [...]
Japanese shop Cotton Crayon has lots of retro/repro goodness I haven’t seen elsewhere. (Most of these fabrics can be found on the fourth link down in the left-hand navigation, then click the button at the very bottom of the page to navigate forward.) I’m not sure if they ship internationally, but I found this shop [...]
I stumbled on Alice Apple‘s designs while clicking around Spoonflower. These bold, graphic prints are inspired by Scandinavian children’s prints of the 1960s-70s. It looks like she will be using her custom digitally printed fabrics for her delightful range of homewares and toys that are for sale through her Etsy shop. No fabric yardage/metreage at [...]
{feed readers, click over to see the fabric slideshow if you don’t see it …} I learned of this brand-new collection through the Fat Quarter Shop‘s Twitter feed … Momma’s Apron Strings, a reproduction line from RJR. This one stands out for including an actual apron pattern pre-printed onto fabric (in two colorways), and ready-to-cut-and-hem [...]
Clothkits has their brand new 2009 catalog available for download. They’ll also send you one via post by emailing info@clothkits.co.uk. As always, their stuff just kills me. I have such a crush on them. I also recently discovered that Clothkits’ main designer Jane Foster has a website and wonderful blog. There you’ll find lots of [...]
(feed readers: please click over to see the slideshow, if you don’t mind!) I want to know more about Urban Chiks, who design for Moda. The website doesn’t name names, but says: These two young designers each bring something very different to the drawing board. One has a background in fashion and a flare for [...]
(Can’t see the slideshow, feed readers? Please click over, if you don’t mind …) I first heard about Polly Goes to Paris, an in-house line from Henry Glass Co., through Jenny. It has recently arrived in a few shops. It’s a great little collection and I hope it gets the love and sales it deserves! [...]
Some cute reproduction cat and kitten prints recently on the scene … The three above are from Michael Miller Fabrics. These look like they might be from vintage gift wrap patterns. image from Fabric Worm And this one is Calico Cats by Alexander Henry. It also comes on a neutral white background. I don’t know [...]
{feed readers … please click on over to see the slide show … I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to make these slide shows visible to you all … } Stationery designer Anna Griffin has put out many impressive collections for Windham (including last year’s favorite, Blythe). One of the two most recent [...]
I’m loving Urban Chicks’ collection 1974 from Moda. Grass green, teal, wisteria, and red jump out most, but gray and yellow is also put to good use here in the versatile small-scale floral and geometric prints. The collection reminds me of waterbeds, cork tile, and big collars, but in a good way. Moda has ventured [...]
“Mobility” in white “Boomerang” in gray Melinamade makes reproduction/retro 1950s-70s fabrics, wallpaper, glassware, and accessories (Tiki Christmas stocking, anyone?). The designs are hand-screenprinted on new, drapery/upholstery-grade barkcloth. The price range for fabric is about $40/yard — I’d call that affordable high-end! Minimum order is one yard. “Jetson” in pink
