Summer Vacay

This is a little scrap of vintage map/vacation-themed fabric from my stash — I love the wild, summery-sweet color scheme. (Sorry about the wrinkles though.) I’d upload it to Kuler for you, but they’re down for redesign at the moment.

Daily Swatch: Pattern Types – Four-Way

Here is an example of a four-way novelty print. The sample is not large enough to determine whether all motifs are oriented in all four directions, but I’m going to go ahead and call it anyway. It’s from the collection of doe-c-doe (blog | shop) on Flickr.

Daily Swatch: Pattern Types – Two-Way

Cycling fabric from the 1950s collection of The Fabric of My Life (Donna Flower) on Flickr.

Daily Swatch: Pattern Types — Two-Way

The Daily Swatch features a piece of vintage fabric (almost) every day. Themes change periodically. Please add your own examples of the theme to the True Up and/or Vintage Fabric Flickr pools. Is it raining down or up? So far in this series on pattern types we have been looking at directionality and have covered [...]

Daily Swatch: Pattern Types – One-Way

Sometimes prints are layered, and one of the motifs or layers will have one direction and the other(s) will have another. Think of tossed flowers over a plaid background. The final determination, though, is based on the most restrictive directionality. In this print from the collection of mannagryn design on Flickr, the hearts are pointed [...]

The Daily Swatch: Pattern Types – Tossed

Wrapping up this week of tossed prints, here’s a prototypical tossed novelty print — and a super sweet valentine-y one at that, from the collection of kimmymade (blog | shop) on Flickr.

Daily Swatch: Pattern Types – Tossed

I’m running low on motif-based theme ideas for the Daily Swatch, so I thought I’d take a breather for a while and turn my attention pattern types. You might remember this post on directionality that I wrote with the help of Michelle of Cicada Studio and now Cloud9 Fabrics. I’ll be devoting a week to [...]

Daily Swatch: Brands and Logos

ladyfort/sallyent mounted this vintage 70s fabric on a canvas to display in a baby’s room. Note the VW logo thrown in there — odd because it’s unlikely this is an officially licensed VW fabric.

Cute Lawn

Just ordered some of this cute cotton lawn because I’m of a mind to make a dress. It’s from Denver Fabrics (15% off sale right now!) and it also comes in stretch canvas and sateen in blue and pink.

Daily Swatch: Mushrooms

Gingham mushrooms and turtles, from the collection of doe-c-doe (blog) on Flickr.

Daily Swatch: Mushrooms

Vintage mushroom tablecloth, from the collection of craftingmomof1 on Flickr. Love the different 70s browns accented with lavender, and the peeks at the stripey underbellies of the mushrooms.

Daily Swatch: Mushrooms

More mushrooms from the collection of mylaar.

Daily Swatch: Mushrooms

Mod pink and black mushrooms, c.1950s-60s, from (my favorite) eBay seller majikhorsevintage. Isn’t everything cuter when filled with little wavy lines or x’s? One yard, current bid $7.99, auction ends Mar-31-09 18:37:13 PDT.

Daily Swatch: Mushrooms

Detail of vintage Waverly Glosheen pattern Forest Friends (more here, here, here, here, and here), from the famous Stitchy McYarnpants (blog) on Flickr. This is now my pick for the #1 most awesome fabric in existence.
