The booth showcasing Etsuko Furuya’s Echino Fall 2011 collection was full of greatness. It also demonstrated that you can do anything with cotton-linen that you can do with quilting cotton, and then some. At the bottom, two “bonus prints” that will be delivering to stores later — everything else is already out. Apologies [...]
Here are some of the smaller collections and one-offs from Kokka and Seven Islands (Kokka’s U.S. distributor, who also works with several other Japanese manufacturers). Did anyone note the designer of the owls and ladies above? What a great little collection, and I’m sure the laminates will be a hit. [...]
And, rounding out this season’s new Trefle fabrics from Kokka, a group of simple retro-mod-Scandinavian-esque prints.
A cotton-linen vintage sewing-themed collection from Kokka’s Trefle line. I think the very last picture doesn’t belong to this mini group, but it wanted to be with the other sewing fabrics, so I said OK.
I’m not sure exactly what defines Kokka’s Trefle line — retro/European/mod/folk? But I know I love it to the ends of the earth. Here is a new assortment of big prints.
I’m sad to have missed Prints Charming‘s U.S. tour, but seeing their new collection Daisy Chain in action, complete with the beautiful embroidery that inspired it, was almost like having Cath and Kirsten there. Those oranges and corals are just magnetic, aren’t they?
I got to spend a little more time with Melody Miller and Allison this time around at Quilt Market, and I can vouch for the fact that they’re as awesome as they seem. I just want everyone to move to Austin so I can hang out with them more! I am in love with Melody’s [...]
Nancy Wolff is an experienced surface pattern designer and illustrator, and also Kokka’s newest fabric designer. I’ll let the placard below speak for me! This is definitely a more mainstream look for Kokka, but an awfully cute one. I love the multilingual greetings!
This upcoming mini collection from Kokka doesn’t have a name, but the juxtaposition of soda and toothbrushes is so great. Very pop art. I’m picturing some unique bathroom and kitchen decor — what about you?
Let’s jump right in then, shall we? Kokka is introducing a small collection of 100% organic fabrics called Cosmic Zoo, which is the textile design brand of French designer Soizic Gilibert. They had me at the samples.
There is a kind of dance in the design world over what the next “hip” animal will be. Seeing the Echino Fall 2011 collection, I imagine Etsuko Furuya popping and locking herself into the center ring and doing her classic moves. Birds. Deer. Owls. And everyone thinks, daaaaaamn, some say they’re played out now, but [...]
Prints Charming has a new home with Kokka for their volume-produced fabric collections, and I think it suits them perfectly! I say volume-produced because their roots are in hand-screenprinted fabrics — making them as well as teaching others to make them. In fact, Cath and Kirsten are touring the U.S. as we speak, holding embroidery [...]
Nani Iro Autumn/Winter 2011 fabrics are out, and Miss Matatabi is the first shop I know of to have them! The collection marks the introduction of a new basecloth, cotton viyella, which Matatabi describes as a soft, lightweight cotton twill. Free patterns (in Japanese) for the collection here.
Luluca is a mini-collection from Kokka on their new 61″ wide, lightweight 85% cotton-15% linen blend. This fabric is suitable for apparel, quilts, crafts, and light home dec. Spotted at Purl Soho.
Here’s a sweet little reproduction collection on a cotton-linen blend from Kokka. See the three other colorways on the Seven Islands site. I haven’t seen this in shops yet, have you?
