This was Mark Cesarik’s first booth at Quilt Market. He and his wife Cara started releasing designs under the Sew Bettie moniker on Spoonflower. FreeSpirit picked them up, and they recently released Calypso Swing, a line of violets, pinks, black and grey quilt weight cottons. Mark takes care of the surface design, and Cara takes [...]
Let’s keep going, shall we? While I didn’t get all of FreeSpirit‘s new offerings, this covers the last of the the designers-without-booths that I did mange to collect. George Mendoza‘s Color of the Wind is all about the blues, oranges, and purples. FreeSpirit has printed two of the prints in two colorways on their microfleece, [...]
FreeSpirit will be shipping Tina Givens‘ Pernilla’s Journey this July. It’s a combination of quilting weight cotton and linen cotton blend prints and takes its inspiration from one of Tina’s favorite childhood books about a young girl who lived in a place called Parrot Jungle. Check out the whole line here (there is a great [...]
You might have already seen Melissa White‘s line in your local quilt store, as it started shipping earlier this year. Fairlyte Garden is her first collection with Westminster/Rowan but her background in hand painted interiors, textiles, and frescoes makes it look like an effortless transition. The palette, is again, distinctly Westminster with five prints in [...]
Westminster/Rowan had fewer of their designers on hand this year, maybe because Spring Market is a bit smaller? No matter, as their fabric offerings were, as usual, stunning (and their partner company FreeSpirit had plenty of designer booths to go around). The Kaffe Fasset Collective is comprised of Kaffe, Brandon Mably, and Philip Jacobs. While [...]
Erin McMorris‘ next collection for FreeSpirit is called Summersault. Though it won’t be out in stores till late June, I’m already loving the big hand-drawn vintage-Scandinavian-feeling floral, and the bright multicolored floral that reminds me of 70s sheets, and the raindrops that go up and down, and everything. After hanging out at Quilt Market this [...]
New Release Tuesday is my periodic roundup of new fabric sightings (mostly quilting cotton) . These fresh arrivals have started to arrive in fabric shops and are ready to buy. Retailers, as always, if you carry any of these collections, let us know in the comments. Seems like it’s either feast or famine with new [...]

{ Habitat by Jay McCarroll, photo by Laura Singewald of Spool Sewing in Philadelphia } In part two of my interview with Jay McCarroll (here’s Part 1), I asked him to take us through the story and inspiration behind Habitat, and to talk about the process of creating each print and how they fit into [...]
Jay McCarroll’s fourth fabric collection for FreeSpirit, Habitat, was released last month and so far it has gotten tons of love all over the blog world. On the off chance you don’t know who Jay is, he was crowned the winner of the first season of Project Runway for his colorful, inventive final collection that [...]
I think the universe is conspiring against me posting to True Up lately — last week I had a sick little boy that needed tending-to, now this week I have his crud, and we’ve had two days of major power outages — day one because windstorms, old trees, and power lines don’t mix, day two [...]
New Release Tuesday is my weekly roundup of new fabric sightings. These fresh arrivals have started to arrive in fabric shops and are ready to buy. Retailers, as always, if you carry any of these collections, let us know in the comments. It’s been a long time since the last New Release Tuesday … it [...]

Here’s a peek at Tina Givens‘ next collection, Haven’s Edge. There are three colorways, her signature dramatic/fantastic style rendered in a bright, saturated palette, and … voiles! For you us voile fans, the bottom photo shows the prints — a sophisticated floral and a coordinating geometric trellis print. Haven’s Edge will be in stores soon [...]
I can’t get Tom Jones’ song out of my head when I look at Tanya Whelan‘s new collection Delilah — the two don’t go together at all, but I still like the juxtaposition! Delilah (the fabrics) is already available in stores, except, I believe, for the laminates.
