I think the apparel fabric experiments that we started to see over the last two Markets have been a success, because there were more blouse/dress-weight fabrics this time around. My market buddy Lauren and I were dying over these from Yuwa — the first five photos you see here are from their collection Thrilling Black, [...]
Feathers and Quills rayon blend, two half meters available, AUD $19.99 each from Retro Age Vintage Fabrics.
Cycling fabric from the 1950s collection of The Fabric of My Life (Donna Flower) on Flickr.
I was looking around for a tossed print that has uneven coverage — areas where the motifs are packed together in areas but dispersed in others — this almost fits the bill, but not quite! I still love it though. It’s from the collection of knittingiris on Flickr.
I’m running low on motif-based theme ideas for the Daily Swatch, so I thought I’d take a breather for a while and turn my attention pattern types. You might remember this post on directionality that I wrote with the help of Michelle of Cicada Studio and now Cloud9 Fabrics. I’ll be devoting a week to [...]
Black ground Pennsylvania Dutch medallion print, from the feedsack collection of Just-a-mere on Flickr.
70s Butterflies & Tulips, from the small but powerful collection of QueenofTarts on Flickr.
Trellis from the collection of damselfly58 on Flickr. I think this qualifies as a floralmetric. On black! Therefore, perfect.
I like the idea of screenprinting onto a gingham basecloth. I don’t know if that’s how this black gingham, part of this six-fabric bundle from Etsy seller paperdollproductions was made, but it looks like it. And I like it.
Vintage words in lozenges, estimated 1940s by the seller (though that’s doubtful — see comments). Looks like it’s a tribute to an unidentified trivia board game. 13.5 x 17 inches, buy-it-now $6.99.
Ugh! So torn! A great black-background print … and four yards of it, for $24! But … clowns. They are clowns at their best and least scary, with horseshoe-shaped legs, even. But I don’t know if I can do clowns at all. If nobody else gets it (from Etsy seller eyeformodern), maybe I will.
This is possibly the best fabric ever. Bought at Urban Burp in San Francisco — Lisa S. spotted it and got some too! More on Urban Burp next week.
From Niesz Vintage Fabric on Flickr. I love how the coloring creates the effect of soft lighting — like you’re in a moonlit tropical garden.
Aah, I’m back! I’ll just put up a few more black-ground prints to close out the week, and because Lisa S and I bought possibly the best black fabric ever at Urban Burp in San Francisco. I’ll show it to you tomorrow or the next day. The fabric above is Travel Time, from kettlebound on [...]
