Holly Ward Bimba is the artist behind Golly Bard. She takes her amazing watercolor paintings (the originals of which she offers on Etsy) and turns them into patterns for fabric. Her first collection, the Woodland Collection, is available for sale on Spoonflower. These are just too gorgeous for words, right? She’s giving away a fat [...]
Gant Powell is a NYC-based illustrator and essayist who says in his Spoonflower profile that he’s “experimenting with surface design.” Well please keep experimenting … I would love to see more sophisticated, hand-drawn designs like this out there. See Gant’s portfolio here.
Aunt June (aka Lauren Hunt) has a new digital design available via the Spoonflower Marketplace. Her birds are dressed up for Halloween, but her signature rainbow array of background colors makes this print suitable year-round. Read more about it, and about bad haircut stories, here. Awesome!

“Stay Free” is one of the many super cute (yet sophisticated) designs by Booster Seat on Etsy. The designer, Anda Corrie, writes that these birds were “inspired by handmade tattoos and the work of my husband, artist Peter Corrie.” She sells by the fat quarter but extra FQs are half price.
There are four parrots to the repeat, and it’s a simple half-drop from there — can you see it? Cleverly titled “Polly Wants a Midcentury Modern Cracker,” $18/yard from In With the Old Vintage on Etsy.
Though you have to be careful with what you make out of Oilcloth International‘s products (see safety info here) I find their prints quite irresistible, especially this new one, called Kenya, which comes in three colorways. Birds! Crazy color blocks! Just my thing. It’s not in stores yet as far as I know, but your best [...]
The themes: Birds, and also border prints and even Pennsylvania Dutch. The fabric: Two rooster border prints, from the collection of twolilacs on Flickr.
The Daily Swatch shows a piece of vintage fabric (almost) every day. Themes change periodically. Please add your own examples of the theme to the True Up and/or Vintage Fabric Flickr Pools! Clouds and birds in two colorways, from ‘smil on Flickr.
This wacky border print with coquettish ostriches accented by black and white gingham is from Make Me! Vintage. It’s 45″ cotton canvas c.1970′s, priced at $14/yard. Updated to add: here’s another print from the same collection — an allover print in brown — for auction on eBay.
(feed readers: please click over to see the slideshow, if you don’t mind!) I want to know more about Urban Chiks, who design for Moda. The website doesn’t name names, but says: These two young designers each bring something very different to the drawing board. One has a background in fashion and a flare for [...]
Happy Valentine’s Day! This has got to be my favorite fabric posted in response to my “two weeks of love” call. It’s another one from Kathy of Pink Chalk Studio / Pink Chalk Fabrics. The heart-shaped cage is the ultimate in sweetness … just don’t read too much into it!
I’ll wrap up these two weeks of vintage bird prints with some bird textiles by my superhero Tammis Keefe. Here’s a previous post about her. See more Tammis Keefe birds here, and more Tammis Keefe in general at the Tammis Keefe Textiles Flickr group.
