Jonathan Adler for Kravet

adler-pots_3

We have a Jonathan Adler store in Austin and it’s got to be one of the happiest places on earth. Except for sad old me bringing things down because I can’t afford anything. I drive past the window every morning and the “Your 24-Hour Pot Dealer” slogan under the URL always makes the subconscious do a double-take. Jonathan Adler has an interior fabrics collection produced by Kravet, with mod printed linens, velvets, embroidered designs, and textured upholstery wovens. I will just have to admire those from afar and get my Adler fix with his JC Penney and Barnes & Noble collections.

You can buy these fabrics through a local interior fabrics store, or online at places like DecoratorsBest and HouseFabric.com.

Japanese Sweater Knits

Knits at Mussukat

kangas_leo

Finland has a thriving market for garment sewing, especially for kid’s clothes. Pair that with the country’s traditions in print design and, no surprise, there are tons of great apparel fabric prints to be found there. There seem to be quite a few little boutiques that sell knits, velour, terry, bamboo fabrics, and other stretch cottons alongside ready-made clothes and accessories. One such source is Mussukat (which means Pumpkin) and these are just some of the delightful knits you will find there. The Fabric Fairy in the U.S. just started carrying some of their knits, so check them out and save yourself some international shipping costs. They are expensive no matter how you slice it, but worth it if you’re looking for something unique and a little edgy.

Dashwood Studio

{ Enchanted Forest by Phyllida Coroneo }

Now this doesn’t happen every day – a new fabric company! Dashwood Studio is a U.K.-based quilting cotton company, which has to be extra great news for the British home sewing community. I first met Creative Director David Sweet when he was with P&B Textiles, and now he’s gone back to his homeland to help foster British design talent and improve access to quality, modern quilting fabrics. The first Dashwood collection, Enchanted Forest by Phyllida Coroneo is out now, and Petite Street by Wendy Kendall is soon to come.

Dashwood also offers a bespoke printing and design service, so if you are in need of your own print run, give them a shout.

Heather Ross Fabric and Video Class Giveaway on Creativebug

HeatherRossBanner

I think we are all excited to have Heather Ross back on quilting cotton and on jersey knit for the first time, yes? Briar Rose, in stores now, is Heather’s first collection with Windham. She has lots of projects to make it even more irresistible. No doubt inspired by her little girl, two of these projects are Creativebug classes.

MousieBlousie_600x400_2

The Mousie Blousie is a sweet little sleeveless top. Design details include a front tab and back button placket. This class is 42 minutes long and geared toward intermediate level sewers.

PatchworkPants_600x400_2

The Patchwork Pants are suited for boys or girls, and can be made in prints or solids. They have an elastic waist (essential for diaper changing ease) and cute faux pockets. The class is 23 minutes long and suited for beginners.

Creativebug is offering a special giveaway to celebrate the release Heather’s new fabric and classes! Enter here on the Creativebug blog for a chance to win a fat quarter set of Briar Rose quilting cottons AND a three month subscription to Creativebug. The subscription will get you unlimited access to the full Creativebug catalog, which includes a total of six Heather Ross video classes and dozens more sewing, quilting, jewelry, needle art, and crafting classes. They will draw a winner on Monday, August 12, so enter today!

Cloud9 Fabrics at Joann

H&G_STACK2_blog

Joann Fabrics is stepping up its game with designer collections (DS Quilts, LisetteJuliana Horner) and they are even bringing organic cotton to the masses for the first time with Cloud9′s collection, House & Garden. I understand designers having collections in independent shops and chain stores simultaneously is not without controversy (and we can certainly talk about it here), but I think the positives outweigh the negatives, especially so if it means increasing the presence, variety, and availability of organic cotton.
