Spring Quilt Market 2013: Moda

As always, Moda Fabrics had a huge booth at Quilt Market! Here are a few highlights:

This groovy lady is Vanessa Christenson, aka V and Co. Vanessa has a new collection called Simply Style full of chic graphic prints in vibrant colors. Vanessa’s skirt is made with one of the new prints which is a chevron that varies in width from selvage to selvage, giving it an optical illusion-feel. This fun fabric gives you a lot of options from one piece of fabric.

Simply Style features graphic prints and florals in one or two colors, and also coordinating solids. They’re great for making a simple statement for fashion or to add to your quilting stash!

One thing Moda is known for is their precut fabric packs in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. They have recently introduced precut hexagons, so you can get the fun look of hexagons without all of the cutting. I love this cute quilt with rings of hexies and randomly placed ones on a natural fabric background. Pretty quilting, too!

Another favorite Moda designer is Kate Spain, who debuted her new collection called Sunnyside. Kate always uses bright, clear colors and this group has a lot of pretty blues, accented with red, yellow and grassy green. Sunnyside has pretty florals but also some fun weather-related prints, like the raindrops and swirly clouds. There are also some nice graphic coordinates, like the squiggly zig zag lines.

Another colorful collection is Wrens & Friends by new Moda designer Gina Martin. This bright group also combines fun florals and graphic prints, but in a more whimsical style. The color combo is very bright – pink, red, aqua, lime and brown to give it more depth.

The Moda booth had an eye-catching quilt made with this collection using a cute flower block. I love this funky quilt!

Finally, another sweet bird-themed group – this one is called Bluebird Park, by Kate and Birdie. Bluebird Park has a fun panel as well as adorable animals like hedgehogs! The color scheme is like a fresh spring day – coral, aqua, lemon yellow and a nice neutral gray-brown to make the brighter colors pop. The panel has a nice mix of small squares featuring motifs from the line, some small fabric gift tags, and a larger section of a pretty floral print that can be used in all kinds of ways.

The rest of the collection works well as individual prints or all together. There are birds on branches, rabbits, bikes, a park scene with owls and squirrels, and a variety of flowers. I’m looking forward to seeing this cute collection!

And of course, all of these collections will be available in Moda’s many precut options – charm packs, layer cakes, mini charms, jelly rolls and more to make a quick quilt project a breeze.

Thank you for featuring my very first fabric collection for Moda! I’m so excited to be working with this wonderful company & having my designs mentioned on a blog that I’ve followed for so long is just icing on the cake. Thanks again!
