Fall Quilt Market 2012: Newcastle Fabrics

Newcastle Fabrics is a relatively new fabric company, having been in business for about two years now.  Right before Quilt Market, it was announced that Hoodie, former house and freelance designer for companies such as Michael Miller, Blank Quilting, and Timeless Treasures, is their new Art Director. They are wanting to build their presence in the modern quilt/fabric world, and Hoodie has them off to a great start!

Styl Mod and Stly Mod II are house collections, a great mix of graphic, showy, large-scale florals and versatile basics.

The retro Happy Days is another Newcastle Studio collection.

For Christmas 2013, we have the bright, fun, bold Wishes. It’ll roll out in May (when most holiday collections come out).

And now a look at Newcastle’s more traditional side. Carrie Quinn’s Mourning Grays are derived from mourning clothes from the 1800s. They have an interesting history which can be read about here.

One of the first online fabric shops I patronized was Reproductionfabrics.com. Owner Margo Krager has a number of reproduction collections herself. The collection below is derived from her early 19th century fabric sample book known as the Dargate Book.

Florence Peto (1881-1970)  was a historian, quilter, lecturer, and author who championed quilt preservation and investigating and documenting the lives and histories of the quilt makers. Newcastle’s Florence Peto collections are in her honor.
