Giveaway: Essential Sewing E-Course by Whipstitch

Whipstitch is a longtime friend and sponsor of True Up. Owner Deborah Moebes started out on Etsy, branched into a brick & mortar fabric store and sewing studio in Atlanta, GA, and recently authored the book Stitch by Stitch: Learning to Sew, One Project at a Time. She’s a very experienced sewing teacher, and you don’t have to live in Atlanta to be her student!

Deborah has been offering e-courses for the past several months, and her Essential Sewing class starts this Monday, perfect for those of you who got a sewing machine for a holiday gift but don’t yet know how to use it. Well procrastinate no more! Deborah is giving away one spot to a True Up reader this weekend!

All the e-courses are a combination of blog posts, PDF downloads, video, audio, and chat. The online portions are best attended in real time but don’t have to be. Everything you need to know about time commitment, supplies, and everything else is in this FAQ.

Just leave a comment on this post about why you’d like to take Essential Sewing, and I’ll pick a winner randomly early Monday morning. Good luck, and thanks to Deborah for the giveaway!

P.S. Our Tanya Whelan giveaway also ends Monday, enter here.

Okay – totally embarrassing, but I own a fabric store and don’t know how to sew. I have a sewing machine that I have no idea how to use. As I am an online gal I would love to do an eCourse – and who better to learn from, too!

  9. camelama says:

Ooo! I’ve been thinking that I need to “formalize” some of my sewing knowledge – mine is all learned by doing, or taught by Mom … and we’re both lazy. LOL

  10. Pam says:

Oh, so I can make better friends with my Janome and because I love buying from Whipstitch on Etsy, got some fabulous stuff from her and A1 service!

  11. beth lehman says:

What a great opportunity! I have taught myself for the most part after learning to sew with my mother as a young girl. I am just sure that there is sound advice out there I don’t know – as well as tips and tricks that would help my sewing to be a bit more professional! Plus, I like Deborah and think she’s funny! Thanks!!

  12. Liss says:

This would be amazing. I’m actually quite at hand-sewing, but bad things happen when I touch the machine. I’d really like to make that a thing of the past!

  13. Erin F says:

Oh, I’d love to take this class! I’ve been flying by the seat of my pants, sewing-wise, and having a blast. But, I’d love some real instruction to kick me into high gear!

Great idea! I’d love to take this course. I have basic sewing skills, but I tend to make multiple mistakes per project, so I’m thinking I may have a few knowledge gaps. I’d love to be able to complete projects without making so many mistakes.

I’d love to take this course – I’m a fairly newbie, self taught sewist so I’d love to learn some new skills :) Plus whipstitch is a fab blog.

I’d really love to be able to take classes on sewing, and since there are no such classes where I live this would be perfect.

  26. Crunchy Con Mommy says:

I’d love to take this class because both my Grandmas are both quilters and I want to learn how to follow in their footsteps, plus I’m weird shaped so I want to make my own clothes (I’m short and narrow shouldered but quite busty). I got my first new sewing machine for my birthday but am terrified I’ll break it if I experiment much.

  27. Hilary says:

I would love to take this course – I’m a decent sewist, but I could use some daily instruction and some tips and tricks from an expert!

  28. Heidi says:

I only just started sewing (less than a year), a friend came over and together we learned how to thread the sewing machine that was given to me. After that, I’ve been on my own trying to read and watch on youtube as much as I can. I would LOVE to take this class and feel like it would give me a better comfort level with the craft that I love so much!

This class sounds great! I would love to learn some concrete skills. I can sew simple things, but usually just make it up as I go along!

  34. Jocelyn says:

I would actually love to win this for my sister. Her and her husband are stationed in Korea and she just got a sewing machine for Christmas and with baby #2 on the way she wants to learn how to use it to make all those fun adorable things. (and selfishly I want her to learn so I have someone I can geek out with about sewing and fabric! Lol)

  35. Melisa says:

I am a self-taught seamstress and I am sure there are better ways to do a lot of sewing tasks…would love the opportunity for professional instruction.

  36. Amy in va says:

Thanks for the chance to win such an amazing give away! I’d like to advance from a ‘good enough for me’ desist to a ‘good enough to give to others’ sewist. That and I’ve got a wild hair to try and teach middle schoolers how to sew. I needs skills.

  37. Jennyroo says:

Yep, this would be perfect for me!

  38. alli b says:

I visited Deborah’s store last spring when I went back East. Loved it!! Wish I Iived closer so I could take her classes in person! Next best would be a chance to take her on-line class & fill in all the gaps of a self-taught sewing enthusiast! Far away in the Santa Cruz Mountain, I’m only a keystroke away!
