Spring Quilt Market 2011: Moda

Moda’s Country Fair theme booth was impressive- there was a ferris wheel, Moda in lights, and even a photobooth. I met with Lissa Alexander who walked me through all of the new lines they have in the works.

First, drumroll please … the pez are back! Although they are now called “Magic Beans,” Moda is bringing back the multi-colored ovals, a pattern I know is near and dear to many.

Lissa said she has heard the call for the “mono pez” but would make no promises! The new American Jane collection, Fairy Tale Friends, also has argyle, pin dots, and tickets- very cute.

I also met Sandy Klop herself who very sweet and thrilled to hear how excited I was about the ovals. She said that she herself wished she had kept more!

Next up, Aneela Hoey’s newest collection, Little Apples. Aneela said she purposely designed the collection to mix with Sherbet Pips, her current collection, but added the rich green to bring a bit of autumn to the pallette.

You can see the whole collection right here (pdf link).

Next up, Circa 1934 (pdf link) by Cosmo Cricket, which has hex dots, some neat typography driven prints, as well print of labels … how brilliant is that? Ready made quilt labels.

Northcote Range is the first fabric line for Cabbages & Roses, a mother-daughter team from the U.K.

Some of these prints are available in washed linen, which had a wonderful drape and was very soft.

Cape Ann is Liesl Gibson‘s (of oliver + s) newest line for Moda. The paperdoll print was darling and Liesl had some adorable sample garments made up in her booth.

The scooter girl toile was my favorite:

The prints will be available in both quilting cotton and brushed cotton, which has the softness of flannel. I can’t wait to sew up some pajama bottoms in the brushed cotton. To see the whole line, go here (.pdf).

I also saw Bonnie and Camille‘s new line, Ruby. Another mother and daughter team, Bonnie and Camille each have their own pattern companies, but design fabric together.

The scalloped stripe is wonderful.

Here is the whole line (.pdf).

All of the collections shown above will be in stores in September or October.

p.s. Everything that everyone told me about the Moda booth at Sample Spree was true. It was NUTS. Imagine hundreds of quilters, frantically grabbing at stacks of fabric, the crowd so thick you can’t even see the sales table. Truly a fabric frenzy.

What gorgeous, fun prints coming out. Must save up my pennies. Seriously though, thank you for the great photos, descriptions and all. So nice to see photos of the printed fabric, their coordinates, and some real life quilts made up-especially for those of us who aren’t ever able to attend something like this. Thank you!!
