Spring Quilt Market 2011: FreeSpirit — Joel Dewberry and Anna Maria Horner

Both of these collections have gotten a lot of press– you can see Laurie Dewberry’s recap of market including some more beautiful booth pictures here.  Anna Maria has also gone public with her Needleworks collection (there’s also a link there to a segment with the DIY Dish ladies explaining more details about LouLouThi). Kristen is responsible for some of these pictures!

Joel Dewberry-- Heirloom

Joel Dewberry-- Heirloom

Joel Dewberry’s Heirloom is going to be huge, in part because the designs are gorgeous and in part because FreeSpirit has printed it up in four substrates: quilting weight cotton, sateen, voile, and laminate. I kept look at swatches thinking that maybe I was pulling doubles, but not so! It’s just a great, big collection, totalling 81 separate pieces. See all the quilt weights here — my photos of the swatches do not do them justice. According to FreeSpirit, Heirloom “is Joel’s take on his mother’s, famous crafter Donna Dewberry, signature flower, the cabbage rose”.

Anna Maria Horner’s booth was almost always packed with admirers. Like Joel, she also introduced an ambitious collection on three substrates (cotton, voile and laminate), which includes her Needleworks line featuring printed cross stitch cotton. You can get a rundown on the Pearl Cotton and embroidery floss here, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I totally geeked out on her new printed bias tape.

Cross Stitch Anna Maria Horner

LouLouThi is in stores now, but we’ll have to wait a little bit to see the cross stitch yardage. And if that weren’t all enough, FreeSpirit released LouLouThi flannel for pre-order. I don’t think this will hit the stores until early fall, but I can’t wait. It’s really beautiful.

  1. I can not even express how much I am in love with all the fabrics in this post! And I gasped when I followed the link to AMH’s embroidered, quilted, pillow. I must make the same thing. I’m going to NYC in mid-July, so I hope the fabrics are in the stores at that point.
