Fall Quilt Market 2011: Lecien – St. Ives by Sarah Fielke

Sarah Fielke was Quilt Market to promote her new book, Quilting From Little Things, and new fabric collection with Lecien, St. Ives, which is inspired by the spirit of growing up in the late 70s-early 80s. The idea behind the book is to learn new quilting techniques in a low-commitment (and quilting-class-friendly) way with doll-sized quilts, then move on to full-sized quilts once you’re hooked. Sarah is so clever — the dolly quilts are not merely mini versions of the larger quilts; they stand on their own as unique designs.

So our grand finale of Lecien posts just happened to coincide with Sarah’s True Up blog tour stop. It’s almost like we planned it that way!

Be sure to follow the whole tour — most everyone has actually made something from the book. I think that’s really saying something! Sarah is just that inspiring.

I just got this book and I LOVE it! Sarah is so talented at combining fabrics. I love the concept of making a small quilt first to learn a technique, too. I really want to make the huge feathered star quilt (Flock Together), but I don’t know how to do that technique so I’m going to make the Reflections in a Lake wall hanging first.

Love her! Love her book! St. Ives is so bold and yet delicate and beautiful! I don’t remember the 70′s and early 80′s being quite this fabulous. ;-) I must buy each and every one of these prints!!
