Giveaway: Freespirit Designer Solids (and Other Basics) Sample Card Giveaway
I think the universe is conspiring against me posting to True Up lately — last week I had a sick little boy that needed tending-to, now this week I have his crud, and we’ve had two days of major power outages — day one because windstorms, old trees, and power lines don’t mix, day two because the entire state of Texas had to undergo rolling blackouts (and of course our neighborhood seemed to get more than our fair share of darkness).
But I want to make up for the sparseness today (and fight all this grayness and chill) with a pretty spectacular giveaway. FreeSpirit has sent me two sets of sample cards of their new Designer Solids and other basics collections — a beautiful, saturated assortment of colors meant to coordinate with their designer print collections. I am reaaaaalllly tempted to keep a set for myself, but I love you so I want you to have them.
As anyone who frequently uses solids, you know that samples are extremely helpful in planning projects and purchases (especially online purchases). And the sample cards are not available for retail purchase! I’ll try to convince them to sell a retail version, but in the meanwhile, this will be the only way to get your hands on them.
Here’s a rundown of the tonal basics:
Beads — a small polka dot. 25 colors.
Houndstooth — the classic weave in print form, which I can’t help but see as diagonal space invaders. 25 colors.
Twine — like a beautiful mess of string. 25 colors.
Dapples — your basic mottled tonal print. 50 colors.
Fresco — like Dapples, but at a larger scale and more defined areas of color. 25 colors.
Instincts — almost like a tiny animal print. 25 colors.
Pinwheels — little curlicues over a Dapples-like background. 25 colors.

I’d LOVE to win one of these sample cards! I’ve been thinking about ordering the Freespirit solids but I don’t know how the colors compare to Kona cottons… they really should sell these cards too!
Oh I would love to have a card set. I usually order fabric over the internet and those samples would be super handy.

I too frequently order fabric on the internet. Hard to know if colors are true to pictures or not.
The number one tool for the quilter. The must have. Will take the guess work out of purchasing and matching solids to prints.
Love your site and would love to have this great resource to know what fabric colors to order when making quilts and projects.

Oh. My. Gosh! I love these! Not having real colors to compare is one of my biggest hindrances to buying more solids (since brick & mortars rarely carry more than a few shades of any given color, I never know if it will be the right one if I need to get it online).

Oh! a Sample card would be so handy. I’m a bit fan of swatch cards and regularly use the ones I have for shopping and helping friends match fabrics. I could really use a FreeSpirit Designer Solid card!

Why, oh why don’t manufacturers make these available for retail purchase? I guarantee that if I knew what I was actually getting when ordering, say, “Everglade,” I would increase my online purchases tenfold! Why all the mystery? Wow, these would be so useful. I haven’t used solids for a long time, but just recently have wanted to add those little pops of accent color & a place for the eye to rest from all the patterns. Of the solids I’ve ordered (not available local to me) more often than not they were just not what I had hoped for. I would love to have cards like this to audition with my other fabrics before ordering. Love it!
