Giveaway: Freespirit Designer Solids (and Other Basics) Sample Card Giveaway

I think the universe is conspiring against me posting to True Up lately — last week I had a sick little boy that needed tending-to, now this week I have his crud, and we’ve had two days of major power outages — day one because windstorms, old trees, and power lines don’t mix, day two because the entire state of Texas had to undergo rolling blackouts (and of course our neighborhood seemed to get more than our fair share of darkness).

But I want to make up for the sparseness today (and fight all this grayness and chill) with a pretty spectacular giveaway. FreeSpirit has sent me two sets of sample cards of their new Designer Solids and other basics collections — a beautiful, saturated assortment of colors meant to coordinate with their designer print collections. I am reaaaaalllly tempted to keep a set for myself, but I love you so I want you to have them.

As anyone who frequently uses solids, you know that samples are extremely helpful in planning projects and purchases (especially online purchases). And the sample cards are not available for retail purchase! I’ll try to convince them to sell a retail version, but in the meanwhile, this will be the only way to get your hands on them.

Here’s a rundown of the tonal basics:

Beads — a small polka dot. 25 colors.
Houndstooth — the classic weave in print form, which I can’t help but see as diagonal space invaders. 25 colors.
Twine — like a beautiful mess of string. 25 colors.
Dapples — your basic mottled tonal print. 50 colors.
Fresco — like Dapples, but at a larger scale and more defined areas of color. 25 colors.
Instincts — almost like a tiny animal print. 25 colors.
Pinwheels — little curlicues over a Dapples-like background. 25 colors.

Just leave your comment on this post, and I’ll draw a winner randomly next Thursday, February 10, around 10am Central U.S. time. Two winners will receive a solids sample card and one each of the other seven basics collections. Thanks to FreeSpirit for providing these lovelies!

The Kona colour card is my go-to for Kona colours but I think Freespirit have some more interesting colours – I’ve bought some in the past but, without the chart, it’s always hard to judge – this would be wonderful to have!

I love these. I have a Kona card and when you live in a place that just doesn’t give you access to the fabrics you want and you have to buy most of your stuff online, these things are just amazing.

They should definitely make them retail. I don’t think companies realize how many people are in a situation like myself where you have to buy online 90% of the time. I think making these cards available for purchase would only increase the company’s sales. :)

  24. Aileen says:

I have so much trouble finding the right shade for solids. I’m planning a monopoly board quilt and looking for the exact shades. I would love these cards for so many projects!

  25. This would be wonderful, I use my Kona card almost daily, and having another source for solids would be great! And I agree..I’d love to see these sold in stores! And…polka dots! Yay!

  26. Kelly says:

  30. Lauren says:

I happened upon a lot of really cute fabric, but have a hard time using it in quilts, without solids to go with it. It’s a salmon color, which is impossible to buy online because you can never tell what the color really looks like: will it be too orange? too pink? too red? Anywho – this could potentially solve all of my problems. :)

  31. Dennis says:

    Just beautiful!

  32. Priceless giveaway!! Thanks for the opportunity!

  36. Jenny L says:

Oh my gosh what an awesome giveaway! I have zero fabric stores within a 20 mile radius so this would save me so many bummer orders online. I have resorted to ordering multiple shades of the same color I need for each project so I at least have a fighting chance to get something remotely close to what I actually need. Thank you!

  37. Jill says:

what a perfect giveaway! I am in need of some color up here in the white Northeast.

  38. Lydia says:

I just inquired yesterday if Free Spirit had a sample card of their solids available for sale. You have answered all of my questions. Thank you so much. I’m sad to hear they don’t sell them retail. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the chance!

  39. Jackie says:

Those look awesome! Please convince them to sell them retail!

  40. Andrea says:

I’d love these for my sewing benefit, but I’d have to hide them from my 12-year-old son who just adores colour samples of anything (yarn, paint, you name it!)

  41. I just love all those tonals! What wonderful options! Thanks for the chance.

  42. Vicki says:

I work in mostly all solids for my quilt business, and I pretty much stick to Kona cottons because I have a color card for that. I would LOVE to have a card from Free Spirit to give me more choices for ordering online! I hope I win! :) Thanks for being so generous.
