Block repeats are the easiest to make, but the downside is they look blocky. If you’re doing a tossed print with a block repeat it’s tricky to avoid tracking, those unintentional vertical and horizontal lines formed by poorly balanced designs. One way to avoid it is to use small motifs in a relatively large repeat, as was done here. Actually if you look at the full image on the Dewitt site and blur your eyes a bit, you can see the unintentional grid formed by too many tulip pairs oriented in the same direction. But it’s not too glaring. Though now you won’t be able to un-see it. Sorry little fabric, I still love you!
