Daily Swatch: Pattern Types – Block Repeat

1960's Semi Circles

Here is another very simple block repeat, from the 1960s collection of thefabricofmylife (Donna Flower) on Flickr. I’m betting it was hand-screenprinted, one color at a time, maybe 2-3 bowls on the screen. With just a little color and flipping around, you end up with a much more dynamic design then, say, if you only had one color in one direction repeated over and over and over. Here, I’ll show you!

Ha, there’s some optical illusion working here — a little nauseating even!

    I love simple block repeats. It’s quite a challenge to make them special.
