Fall Quilt Market 2010 – Seven Islands – Cocca

Cocca

I didn’t find out what was up with the similar names, but the Seven Islands (the U.S. distributors of Kokka and other Japanese textile brands) booth was also showing a high-end, multi-purpose (but home-dec leaning) collection called Cocca, from a Tokyo-based shop/brand of the same name. The pictures don’t really capture the prints’ scale or beauty, but I was quite taken by these fabrics and at least wanted to let you know about them. They’re like IKEA or Marimekko fabrics seen through a Japanese design lens. If I recall correctly, the MSRP ranged between $50-100 per yard, so I don’t think they’ll be showing up in most quilt shops. Maybe some of you retailer-readers learned more about Cocca and can share the info in the comments, I’d really appreciate it!

  1. Hi Kim ~ Just wanted to stop by and mention that it’s good to see you braving the waters of home dec fabrics and including them now and then. Keep up the good work! We home dec sewists are very much fabricoholics as well!

    Regards,

    Ellen

I love that bag from Kokka, the last one pictured, with the small squares and striped handle. Will that ever be available around here?

These fabrics are drop-dead gorgeous! Thanks for sharing them, but what a tease! I could never afford to make anything with them, at least not without breaking the bank!

  4. Although much of my information is a blur from market I learned that Cocca fabric is only for the Cocca store and people come there to buy it. It’s basically the Ritz of fabric shopping in Tokyo. I think they were showing it primarily and didn’t expect any of us to buy it. You are correct though the pictures can’t show how cool the fabric really is.

Perhaps a quilt lottery winner could buy some and tell us about the experience.
