Fall Quilt Market 2010 – FreeSpirit – Anna Maria Horner

Freespirit - Anna Maria Horner - Innocent Crush

Since Innocent Crush has been in stores for a few weeks now and Anna Maria has written all about it (including this comprehensive intro to velveteen) on her blog, I hope I’m not too late to the party with this post! Hopefully I can add to your knowledge of the line. Like, you knew that it was inspired by young love and all the contradictions that entails, but did you also know it was partially inspired by punk rock and Frida Kahlo? Well, maybe just these quilts were, but I can definitely see it in the prints too, and it was echoed in the display of safety pins and pearls. It brought me right back to my own high school punk rock crush(es). Sigh!

And you knew that the collection has quilting cottons, home dec weight sateens, voiles, and AMH’s (and the market’s) first velveteens, but did you know that there will also be some bias bindings? Yum.

And you might have already learned about her new Flower Patch Pillow, Gathering Flowers Quilt, and Proper Attire Skirt patterns, but hey, it all bears repeating. And don’t you think that looking at these velveteens is almost just as soothing as touching it?

Love. I purchased some velveteens and they are so lovely in person. Worth every penny. The bias tape is new information! Very exciting.

I just made a patchwork with the warm or pink/red/orange colorway – so warm and beautiful! Was wondering if she will be either posting instructions on how to make the heart/punk rock quilt on her blog or if she will be selling as a pattern? Does anyone know?

I HAVE to have that heart quilt pattern! I have NEVER gotten SOO excited about doing a quilt as I am that one! I LOVE it and cannot wait to get the pattern. Do you have any idea when it will be available? THANK YOU for sharing. You and AMH definitely inspired me!

Ok, somehow I missed those bias bindings. Freaking out right now – those are so awesome. Don’t stop sharing, Kim. We’ll all be so sad if you stop short. Plus you always know insider stuff the rest of us miss. :-)
