Fall Quilt Market 2010: Alexander Henry – Larkspur

Alexander Henry - Larkspur

Well hello! I’m back from another spectacular quilt market and finally got the 10 Hours of Sleep Award last night so I’m ready to start sharing all the fabric goodness. We’ll start with one of my favorite companies, Alexander Henry, and their featured collection Larkspur. It’s a full quilting cotton collection in very different-feeling colorways, with some prints on cotton lawn and one (the one with the birds) on their Fashion for Home heavy cotton oxford. The darkest color in this first tropical-inspired colorway, Fruit Punch, is a very dark eggplant, not black. Purples, grays, and teals, which started trending last fall, were in full force at this market.

AH also had a lot of indigo going on — Larkspur has two indigo colorways, one purplish and one greenish:

Co-designer Nicole de Leon said these colors were inspired by 70s Clinique packaging, “where you could smell the lime just by looking at it”:

And then I love how they chose to present these very sophisticated prints as a children’s collection, mixed with some other classic prints and surrounded by cool kids’ picture books and vintage and handmade toys:
