Spring Quilt Market 2010: Kaffe Fassett / Liberty Art Fabrics + Book Giveaway
Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy were missing from Quilt Market this time, and it wasn’t the same without them! But there was new Kaffe fabric, of course. Marleybone (above) is the second installment in the Liberty Art Fabrics collection — these are prints chosen from the Liberty archives and colored by Kaffe. Learn more about this meeting of the fabric titans on the Sew, Mama, Sew blog.
I’ll feature the new fabrics of the other Kaffe Fassett Collective members (Phillip Jacobs and Brandon Mably) and fellow Rowan designer/kindred spirit Martha Negley later, but I wanted to show you Kaffe’s new prints up close and personal. These are arriving in shops very soon — Marleybone is already available. As always, it’s his reds and warm tones that really resonate with me … see all the colors on the Westminster site, Kaffe’s site, and/or Glorious Color.

{ Pencils in Red }
{ Palm Fan in Ochre }
{ Ombre in Green }
{ Line Dance in Red }
Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy also have a brand new book out — a stunning volume of 23 new quilt patterns called Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts. The quilts are based on single shapes: squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, quarter circles, and circles, and vary in difficulty from dead easy (Stripescape) to mind boggingly difficult (Circle of Stars) but they are all indeed spectacular — and very modern yet classic at the same time.
I have one copy of SSSQ to give away, courtesy STC Craft. Just leave a comment waxing poetic (or just enthusiastic) about the new book or fabrics. I’ll draw the winner randomly next Tuesday, June 29, around 4pm Central U.S. time. You can also join a Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts Quilt-Along, and follow all the stops in the blog tour starting here.

I love the colors in K.F’s fabrics. This book looks AWESOME.
i love simple patterns….letting the fabrics speak for themselves! would love to own this book!
These are amazing! Palm fan makes me inspired to sew a skirt, with line dance for a trim. Have heard a lot about the book. The beautiful colors are so gorgeous and yummy!
I’ve been lusting after the Liberty Marylebone prints ever since the preview first showed up over at Sew Mama Sew. Seeing them again here made me go order some…can’t wait until the fabrics arrive!
OH, I checked this book out from the library and flipped through it quickly, thinking it was just another basic quilt book but then I started to read the words and was overtaken by the beauty in everyday things that this man sees! To coin a phrase, he has a poetic eye! Alas, I did not finish reading the book before I had to give it back. I would truly adore the chance to own my own copy!!
I’ve heard so much about this book – would love to try some of the things in it!
I absolutely loved the concept of this book with the focus on the shapes. Owning several of his books, I wasn’t sure at first about this one but having perused it at the book store yesterday I was completely sold on it and would love to have a copy of it.
When I die, I want to come back as a Kaffe Fassett fabric. Love them, absolutely LOVE them!
I’m with you – the reds in the fabrics catch my eye too!
Gorgeous! I’d love to add this book to my collection.
Would love to have this book. I tend to select complex patterns, but I would love to make simple quilts that look spectacular.

Ohhhhhhh, I just love Ombre in Green. Beautiful.
No one does simply spectacular like Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy. Amazing quilts! And that fabric is too die for!
Ohh I just used some of my precious savings to book a place at one of his workshops here in Australia in 2011. I haven’t go the book yet but I am hoping to win it…
Oh I’m definitely in love with the new art fabric. I can hardly wait til it arrives in a show near me.

Those red pencils would be such a great inspiration fabric for one of the quilts in the new book!!
The colors are so wonderful and the book looks fabulous. I’d love to drool over it. I’d even more love to have all the time in the world to make all the quilts in it!
Kaffe- boundless enthusiasm for colour and shape, got to love him and his book!
Last Saturday I borrowed a Kaffe Fasset book from the library and spent the weekend sighing over it. This one looks even more wonderful – I think it should be called “Simply spectacular shapes and quilts”! The gorgeous floral fabrics you highlighted all feature fan radiations and, mixed with the lines (pencils) and spots, they would make an amazing quilt – that is, if you had the brilliant Kaffe Fasset beside you, helping you make it (in book form). You would indeed be home and hosed! Thank you for such a lovely giveaway opportunity.
Wow, lots of Kaffe Fassett fans want to win this book! It sounds as spectacular as his fabrics look.
I don’t often enter for giveaways but this one is fabulous. I have been a Kaffe fan since his knitting days in the 80′s. I have every possible digit crossed for this one!
just when I thought nothing more beautiful than the last group of Kaffe fabrics, now he comes out with these – simply stunning beyond words.
Thank you for the giveaway !
I’d love to look through this book!

Thank you for having this giveaway! My second bed size quilt was a Kaffe design. Don’t remember the name or which book it was from, but I’ve been drawn to his fabrics since the first one I saw! The quilt I made positively glows and we love it!
I would love this book! Thanks for sharing the fabric photos, inspiring.
Do you ever wonder if the world would be a better place if more people could be exposed on a daily basis to colors like these? I know that when I look at Kaffe’s fabrics my heart zings. OK, I admit, my heart zings with a lot of different fabrics, that is why I log on to your blog so often … but I can’t imagine anybody just walking by these fabrics and their heart not zinging. Can you?
I would live this book, The colors are so vibrant!
I actually have never used any Kaffe fabric, but every time I see it on a blog I am amazed at all the wonderful colors. I’d love to own the book!

I love his use of color. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be able to chose how to color vintage fabric, what a horrible job!
Lucky us that we get to partake.

Of course, the fabric is always spectacular too.
