Swoon: A Closer Look

Melissa Averinos has unveiled Swoon, her second fabric collection but the first for Andover. There are eight prints in three colorways (moss, teal, and cherry — some of the teal is shown above). She says the main print Garland is her favorite and reminds her of seventies sheets — once I read that I was transported back to my late-childhood home. The whole collection totally brings back the era of waterbeds, cork and mirror tile walls, and unicorn window decals. And Melissa has achieved the impossible — I used to shudder at the tackiness of it all but now I am seeing its awesomeness. But Swoon isn’t merely nostalgic, it’s also really forward-thinking, very different from anything else I’ve ever seen. It’s wild, tantalizing, colorful, and I can’t wait to see it in action.

Swoon will debut at Quilt Market later this month and be in stores … when? I’ll see if I can find out.

Since seeing the first post here, I’ve been waiting to work on a quilt because I want to use some of this! I hope it’s in stores soon!!

I can definitely see those 70′s sheets, too! Unicorns were my favorite thing when I was a kid in the 70′s, too. I think the whole “waterbed” era comes across the most in the teal colorway. But, surprisingly and in spite of that–I love the collection!!
