Preview: Dream On by Urban Chiks

I dare say that the vintage bedsheet-inspired collection Dream On by Urban Chiks for Moda is one of the most anticipated collections of the year so far. Personally, even though it might be irrational, the thought of buying used vintage sheets oogs me out a bit (especially with bedbugs in the news, not that they are related) so I’d much rather have reproductions in this case. The advance precut packs sold like hotcakes earlier this summer online (sometimes at highly inflated prices!), but they are back in stores now at normal prices. I think I’ll hold out for yardage, which I think is scheduled for a November release, but that ohmygoditsgonnaselloutinaninstant feeling is giving me an itchy trigger finger. (Or maybe it’s the thought of bedbugs making me itchy.)

How about you? Are you excited about this line? What are your procurement plans?

I think a few of these will be coming to live with me :)

  2. Cathy A says:

Dare I say it?? These don’t do anything for me. I think they remind me too much of the bed sheets from when I was a kid. It seems like that should be a comforting thing, doesn’t it? So I don’t know why they don’t hold any appeal for me. I feel like I “should” like them though–which, of course, is silly. But I’m glad that lots of people like them and that the fabrics make people happy!

I love them and want them all. Everywhere. In every room.

  4. Penny says:

I had to laugh when I read Cathy A’s reply! Indeed they remind me too of my bedding as a child and what makes me laugh is that……I am old enough to be Vintage!! YIKES!! I do still think they are pretty though and had I known that my sheets were a “vintage find” I would not have off’d them in a garage sale :( I am sure though that some one is a happy camper!

  5. Sherri says:

Yes…I can’t wait for this line…and tried to comment earlier as well…it’s such an amazing group of fabrics…I was lucky to get a charm pack a couple of months ago but like you am waiting for yardage!

  6. Emily says:

Oh my – I absolutely cannot wait for this line! I want yardage in just about every print. I’m saving up to buy a half yard of every print – i told my husband 2 months ago so we could budget for it…and have been waiting anxiously ever since! :)

  7. Polly Danger says:

As a lover of vintage fabrics I can’t help but love the prints. Love love, love! However I feel like half the charm of vintage bedsheets is the “vintage” part- the fading flowers and ultra softness. I’ll be washing mine about 5 times before using any of it ^=^. I’m waiting for a mustardy gingham or some 1/2″ stripes!!

  8. Katie says:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this line. I have been coveting jelly rolls of it on etsy for a while. I’m with you about the used linens thing too… this is nice and new and you know you can get as much as you need of it where if you were using sheets or something like that maybe there would be a (ick!) stain or something you’d have to work around or maybe there would be threadbare spots. Anyway, this is total fabric porn for me. LOVE IT!

I am all over it! Procured a layer cake this summer for a decent price and it really wants to be a beach quilt whenever I get around to it. Not that we’ve had any beach weather this summer, and now it’s already feeling like fall, so no huge hurry,…

  10. Ellie says:

Love this line!! I picked up a couple of charm packs on ebay last month, and I want to make Lila Tueller’s Calista skirt for my tweenage daughter. It’s so bright and cheerful. I just need to get some yardage in one of the stripes for the bottom.

    Can’t wait!

  11. I went ahead and ordered a layer cake. I’m thinking it’ll make a cute zig-zag quilt, and then we’ll see what else after that. So pretty and bright and retro, oh my! :)
