New Release Tuesday

Today I’m starting a weekly feature called New Release Tuesday. Since Tuesday is the day of the week when new music and DVDs tend to be released in the U.S., I thought I’d follow along even though fabrics don’t follow this kind of schedule.

Of course we will continue our interviews, guest posts, etc., but too many awesome fabrics have been falling through the cracks because we don’t have time to give everything the in-depth treatment. This column will feature fabrics that are now available in retail shops.

Shops, as always, if you carry any of these collections, the comments section is fair game for letting readers know!

Los Sanctos

Los Sanctos by Terrie Mangat for FreeSpirit is one of the coolest, most vibrant, almost outsider-arty takes I’ve seen on Our Lady of Guadalupe fabrics. The collection also features other saints popular in New Mexico, St. Anthony (patron of lost items), St. Theresa the little flower, Saint Raphael, Saint Michael, St. Joseph, and Santo Nino.

Petal Punch from Hoffman has been out for a while now. It features bright, happy florals and marks a distinctly retro-modern turn for Hoffman Fabrics, which is mostly known for their lush Bali batiks and more traditional screenprinted collections.

Coffee Buzz is by Kathy Hall for Andover. I like the hand-drawn quality of the focus prints, and the caffeinated quality of the coordinates!

This shirts print from Timeless Treasures is part of their ongoing adult novelty line.

Moda has several April collections …

The decidedly un-Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird by MoMo is causing a lot of buzz — it’s a bright, happy, playful collection from the designer of the uber-popular Wonderland and Odyssea.

I’m afraid I don’t know anything about Moda’s newest designer Keiki, but her bird-and-butterfly-themed debut Tweet Tweet features exuberant focus prints and retro-modern lines.

Fig Tree & Co.‘s collections are a more soft and traditional than what I typically feature here, but I am a sucker for designer Joanna Figueroa’s signature colors and how her designs translate into her amazing quilts. Fresh Cottons (read more about it on her blog) recently hit the shops on the heels of the nursery themed collection Whimsy and a collection of very quiltable, incredibly cozy Snuggle fabrics.

Chloe’s Closet has two new collection for April. 1933 (above) is a collection of small-scale repro basics — stripe fans will want to snatch up the cute little stripe coordinates. Happy Daisy (below) is a super sweet, vaguely Pennsylvania-Dutch-inspired little collection, which is also featured as part of Moda Home’s Learn to Sew kits (pdf link).

These look wonderful! I am a big fan of Terrie Mangat (have you seen her quilts? They are incredible.) And I like all of Kathy Hall’s collections.
