Benartex: Let’s Play

I spotted this playground print on someone’s blog today (please let me know in the comments if it’s you! Usually I can locate these things through the magic of Google Reader’s search function, but not today). This reproduction-looking print is so cute, but a closer look reveals several things make me cringe as a modern mom (Cowboys and Indians … and that slide totally doesn’t meet safety regulations), yet at the same time make me wistful for a time when playground equipment wasn’t so, uh, cushiony. It’s from Benartex (who we don’t usually see around these parts! Hi!). The collection is by an in-house designer and is called “Let’s Play.” The collection also features a light blue and light green colorway with yellow — see it all here.

Yea, that playground equipment may not be up to code, but it sure brings back memories. The playground at my grade school looked just like that, monkey bar cage, slide, teeter-totter, everything. My cousin and I used to wax the slide first with the wax paper that our sandwiches came wrapped in. Weeee!
Looks very much like a MM print from five or six years ago. Love that abacus print.
Quite possibly my favorite collection in YEARS. Love it. The abacus print nailed it for me.
I had some of that playground print. I bought it like four years ago. I thought it was an Alexander Henry fabric. I will definitely be getting more of it.
I had the same reaction to that print — so cute, but also so enforcing stereotypes that I don’t want to perpetuate.
Darn. Other than that a really cute collection.
I still have a bit of this from 2004. It is by Alexander Henry and is called “playground”. Super cute!
