I couldn’t resist a Lena Corwin-style book review with this recent acquisition to my fabric, textile, and pattern book collection: Vintage Feed Sacks: Fabric from the Farm by Susan Miller, for Schiffer Books. The text, while offering lots of valuable and interesting history and information for collectors, needed some better editing, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me since the pictures are the star here.
There is a section on logo sacks, not only feed bags but also bank and ammo bags which I never knew were a thing. Then the patterned cloth feedsacks are divided into the familiar categories of floral, geometric, and novelty. (But not paisley, the book reads, because they forgot about them on the day of the photo shoot!) This book is a must-have for fans and collectors of vintage fabrics and those interested in this remarkable phenomenon of upcycling.
