Awesome Book Alert.

I found this book, Digital Textile Design by Melanie Bowles and Ceri Isaac, while browsing around on Amazon yesterday. It’s just what I’ve been looking for. Here’s an excerpt from the publisher‘s information:

Digital Textile Design covers everything students and practitioners of textile design will need to learn about designing and printing digitally. [It] provides the know-how for students and professionals who wish to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as design tools. A series of inspirational tutorials, presented in step-by-step format, guide the reader through the process of creating designs that will be suited to both the traditional textile production process, and to the new industry of digital printing onto fabric. … the book also discusses how designers can access this new technique, looks at the work of those currently exploring its possibilities, and also features the craft of embellishment that is being used to offset the apparent flatness of print.

I’ll be posting a review as soon as I can get my hands on it.

    Hi Kim,
I was lucky enough to get this book the second it was released as it was also exactly what I’ve been looking for.I find it practical with pointed, brief yet detailed instructions and plenty of illustrations.I am working my way through it as I design my own line of textiles. All in all,I highly recommend.

I should have prefaced the above comment by saying I have no design experience and am new to photoshop/illustrator.I’m just a self-taught artist with a desire to incorporate my art into don’t be intimidated if you are a design newby. You’ll find this book very helpful.

Oooh! I can’t wait for your review–that book sounds very interesting. I’ve been itching to try screenprinting large repeats on fabric, but don’t really know where to begin with the design aspect–seems like that book could help guide me in the right direction.

This book looks great but I now have a problem…. I’m on a self-imposed book buying ban for a while and I’ve just sat here for the last 30 minutes looking at this book on Amazon thinking “Do I hit the “Add to Cart” button?”….

  7. Bridget B. says:

Look amazing – I can’t wait to see what you think of it!

I wish I had seen this earlier. Will not be eating out much for a while either with my book buying budget destroyed.
