Marimekko Spring Preview

{feed readers … please click on over to see the slide show … I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to make these slide shows visible to you all … }

Marimekko recently previewed their extensive Spring 2009 collection on recently previewed on their blog. There are some new colorways of old favorites like Unikko and prior seasons’ prints, and some brand new designs as well.

I’m really liking the tone-on-tone and white-on-white prints that you can see a bit better here, here, and here but they need to be seen in person to fully appreciate them. I don’t know the names, but my favorites have to be the pen-and-ink-drawn 3-D blocky print in black, white, red, and aqua, and the wonderful folky/mod nature print in fuchsia, purple, aqua, and orange.

    I LOVE the elephants! Any idea what size those pachyderms are? I am developing a quilt inspired by Wes Anderson’s film The Darjeeling Limited which needs a border of elephants. But if these Hortons are too big for borders they might become backing. Have I mentioned I LOVE the elephants?

    Thanks for the mention!

    The large elephants (slide #1) measure a little less than 50 inches tall – they’re BIG. On the smaller pattern (slide #3), the elephants measure about 2-1/2 inches tall. Feel free to email us if you have more questions – info{{at}}

    Truly inspiring! My piggy banks are sweating bullets.
    I am so glad for the lovely small prints! It can be so hard to decide how to cut up big bold Marimekko prints and I always want to just leave them whole.
