Fall Quilt Market 2009: Yuwa/Kei Fabrics
Kei Honeycomb Dots – new colors
As part of this week’s Quilt Market coverage I’ll be showing one Japanese fabric company each day. Let’s start with Yuwa and Kei. I’m not sure if Kei is a brand belonging to Yuwa (or vice versa), or if they are two companies with the same distributor, but their fabrics were all in one booth together. These are things I don’t think to ask until it’s too late!
A thing you should know about most of the Japanese fabrics you see this week: Each print comes in several colorways, but for the sake of time I tended to only take one picture. I’m also not sure whether they’re current or future offerings. I know, I’m no help!
See more from Yuwa and Kei Fabrics on the True Up Flickr stream.
Yuwa “Live Life” kitchen collection
An assortment of sweet reproduction-looking prints
I thought this one was interesting — wire sculpture motifs with numbers and text reading “ARTS” and “CRAFTS”
Fabrics by Megumi Sakakibara – the top one is a large scale border print on linen; the bottom one is on linen too.

I’m a huge Yuwa fan … I miss living in NYC and having access to so many of their wonderful prints at Purl Patchwork! Their cottons have an amazing handfeel
I love the honeycomb dots — who doesn’t?!? — and it looks like they’re doing some lovely vintage + feedsack repros.
I’m obsessed with the Kei Honeycomb (and use it for everything!) but it’s getting harder and harder to find- any idea where the new colorways will be available? Purl hasn’t had any of this stuff (in colors other than brown) for months and months now…
I’m also obsessed with Kei right now! Just got a whole bunch for the first time and I’m having a rough time cutting into it!
Beautiful! I know very little about the different Japanese companies but I do know that I love Japanese fabrics!!!
I think that possibly Yuwa recently purchased Kei fabrics. I visited the Kei shop in Osaka several years ago and they carried no Yuwa, but now they seem to show up together in collections.
Yuwa produces all of Suzuko Koseki’s fabrics, but they are almost impossible to find in the U.S. and I don’t see any in your post. Might you recall seeing any at the Yuwa booth for sale to U.S. fabric shops?
I am lucky that my daughter lives in Japan so I get to visit regularly. Occasionally she will hunt something down and send it to me, but it would be wonderful to have a source here in the states for these wonderful lines.
I love those Kei dots – Sew Deerly Loved has them for sale on Etsy…I really love Megumi Sakakibara’s fabrics too…
This is delicious. I’m new to Yuwa/Kei, so this is very interesting. and I adore that kitchen print!
Thanks for taking all those pictures and putting them up! Aren’t they all lovely?
LOVE the new color of kei dots and the Yuwa kitties!!! There are a few Etsy seller who sell the kei dots if anyone is interested, just search there for “kei” in supplies.
