green and black swirly fabric

True Up is a mere one week old today, and I’ve already gotten a huge response. I just wanted to thank everyone for the links, feedback, questions, and suggestions. I really appreciate it.

I don’t know if I could have sustained an all-fabric blog just a couple years ago. There just wasn’t as much stuff that I liked and felt motivated to write about. I knew the names of every designer I liked, which stores carried their lines, and for how much each one charged per yard. (I know. Dork.) The wish list in my head was finite and manageable. Now you can’t even begin to keep up with it all — the ever-evolving quilt fabric scene, the Japanese fabric, the handprinted fabric, all the Etsy shops, and now all the greatness that will certainly come from Spoonflower — it’s just overwhelming. That’s why I started True Up — I thought a filter would be valuable, for the consumers, designers, and merchants alike.

Do you feel the same way as I do? Has your wish list gone crazy? With all the choices available, how do you prioritize spending your limited budgets? Talk about it in the comments.

First of all, congratulations!! True up has immediatly become a daily-read and I’ve even been through all your archives! Thanks so much for all the valuable information :)

As far as fabric shopping is concerned, because I live in Portugal I have to to be extra judicious about what I buy. This is all due to customs and shipping rates, of course. And also because I can’t see and feel the fabric before I buy it! So I wait until people begin to make things with some new fabric in particular, and then I give it a go.

Anyway, I absolutely love this blog! :)

I have to agree. I’ve really seen the business change in the last 12 or so years I’ve been involved. Its exciting and there’s still so much to find out about. Its very exciting.

My wish list is insanely crazy … with so, so many cute fabrics out there and ideas swirling around in my head, it’s a bit chaotic sometimes.

I prioritize by not allowing myself to buy fabric *just* to stash it. After a purchase, I make something as soon as I can yank it from the dryer.

BUT … a little bit of this-n-that does creep in, too … As long as that’s the exception rather than the rule I can keep the guilt away.
