Quilt Market Fall 2008: Camelot Cottons

lulu - sistersgulassa

I made a beeline for the Camelot Cottons booth because I saw they had a line of Mr Men and Little Miss licensed fabric. Turns out that the artwork is still being finalized so I don’t have anything to show you, but Camelot has a lot of other interesting things happening — they’re definitely a company to keep an eye on!

If you’ve never heard of the Montreal-based Camelot, it’s probably because they’re only about three years old. They are the new quilting cotton division of the 50-year-old Eugene Textiles, a Canadian garment fabric company. Design director Elana Cooperberg told me about about the company’s interest in hand-rendered artwork and contemporary design geared toward the modern quilter. I was really drawn to the collection above, called Lulu, designed by SistersGulassa. One sister lives in Berkeley, California, and the other lives in Vienna, Austria, but somehow they manage to collaborate and run a design studio together! Here’s another look at Lulu:

And two more contemporary collections:

from the garden - gray

From the Garden by Susan Benarcik — I’m always in need of good grays so I want some of these prints! It’s also in browns/mustard yellow.

medallions green

Medallions — sorry, no info on the designer — this also comes in blue and red colorways.
