Jay McCarroll: Woodland Wonderland and Garden Friends
The FreeSpirit website is now showing Jay McCarroll‘s two debut collections, Woodland Wonderland and Garden Friends. My first impression — weird! In a good way. The deer and bunnies are very 70s and both collections have a kind of cute/psychedelic vibe. I love the Martha Negley-esque tree rings especially.
It’s just not at all what I would expect coming out of a Project Runway winner, so I have lots of questions to ask if I’m lucky enough to talk to him at Quilt Market.
Samples from both collections are mixed up below — I have no patience with my slow WordPress today so I’m sorry for not separating them out all nicely. Fortunately you can check them out on the FreeSpirit site to get a better presentation.

I like them but I don’t know what I would do with them! A few I could see me using but I’d really have to deep think what design would work with them. They are fun though.
wow…you wern’t joking about the wierd factor. Looks like they fertilized the garden with LSD. Those critters look like they are seriously tripping. I love the mushrooms and trees though.
Adorable! I had never heard of Jay until last week, when I saw him on a show over here (I’m in Finland, you see). Then he suddenly seems to be popping up everywhere!
