Valori Wells: Olive Rose

Valori Wells is a prolific woman. She’s a quilter, author, fabric and pattern designer. She also co-owns The Stitchin’ Post in Sisters, Oregon. Her fabric designs have always had crossover appeal, attracting both traditional quilters and (if I may co-opt this term, J. Caroline!) the fabric 2.0 crowd, and her newest quilting and home decor fabric lines, Olive Rose for FreeSpirit, really caught my eye.

She shares the paintings that would become Olive Rose designs and writes a bit about her design process on her website:

My designs are inspired by nature and my surroundings. Everywhere I go, I carry a camera and sketchbook. From images captured and sketched, I develop my designs starting with pencil drawings then painting in acrylic or gauache. These paintings and drawings are also scanned for use digitally.

She writes about her family, hiking, and her work on her blog: here‘s a post on her Spring Quilt Market experience and here‘s one where she hangs out with Amy Butler.

More on Valori and Olive Rose in this post on the Fat Quarter Shop’s Jolly Jabber blog.

Olive Rose is available from Pink by Post, the Fat Quarter Shop, eQuilter, and many other places.

Of course you can use “my” term- isn’t this how buzz words get their start? (But should I charge a royalty?)

Valori is very talented and Olive Rose is gorgeous.

  2. I especially love the colors in the bottom pick. This is a beautiful group!

I thought I’d mention too that Valori has created a free quilt pattern for Olive Rose. It can be downloaded from the Project Create area at Pink by Post.

Her patterns are very well written and easy to follow.
