I love prints on black backgrounds. It makes even mediocre designs (not that this one is mediocre) pop. This floral cotton/poly blend is from Knitting Iris on Flickr. Add your vintage black-background fabrics to the True Up Flickr Pool, tag black.

Here is a truly unique and exciting shop. EmilyMe sells through Etsy from Bangkok, Thailand. She gets her fabric from a local family who hand-screenprints their designs on a 90% cotton/10% polyester blend. This family has been making their fabrics since the 1950s and are currently reprinting the vintage designs. There’s an assortment of 60s-70s-ish [...]
Detail of a vintage apron, from Maraid on Flickr. The ogee pattern is achieved through the horizontal ribbon/petals.
Merrytown Street Stripe Fly by Night Clown Check Dig It Tot Town is a boy-leaning line of quilting-weight cotton recently released from Michael Miller Fabrics. Two prints, “Dig It” and “Street Stripe,” also come in flannel. Clean, modern, non-licensed character prints for preschool boys are few and far between so snatch this up from J. [...]
Attention U.K. readers! Country House Antique Textiles is holding an Open House Sale next week, Sept. 5-6, 10am-4pm in Bideford, Devon. The ogee is well represented in Something Fine‘s collection on Flickr. This one is a Dekoplus Kitchen Fabric. Something Fine is interested in 60s-70s vintage fabric and sells a lot of it on eBay UK.
More greatness from Michelle of Cicada Studio: a tutorial on creating plaids in Photoshop, which includes a free template. If you’re not familiar with weaving terminology, see here and here. And for some plaid inspiration, see my all my posts tagged “plaid.”
Posted by Hillary Lang on Flickr. As we saw yesterday, ogees don’t have to be solid or near solid, nor are they strictly 60-70s mod, though it seems they were extremely popular in that era.
The Textile Blog: entirely devoted to textiles of the twentieth century and their designers. Everything I know about textile history can be contained in John Hopper’s little finger. Browse the archives for tons of information on the great fabric designers, their place in the evolution of textile design, and design eras. Fibercopia: I started this [...]
IKEA has a new fabric collection for Fall 2008, Inger by Anna Salander. It’s 59″ (150cm) wide, and only $5.99/yard.
Ianthe, a vintage art deco Liberty of London print. I’m pretty sure this qualifies as ogee, though a pleasantly lopsided ogee. Posted by Retro Age Vintage Fabrics on Flickr.
Jessica Jones of How About Orange has posted a preview of her second fabric collection, Amusement Park. You might remember her first collection, Modern Flora, for J.Caroline Creative. I’m glad the line was successful enough to have another go-round, and I’m happy to see Ms. Jones using her favorite color liberally! Amusement Park is due [...]
If you’ve been inspired to declutter your stash, here’s a wonderful thing to do with your “purge” pile. In 1994 Amina, aged 18 at the time, fled the harrowing violence of the Rwandan civil war, the poverty and the dismal future in Rwanda. As a teenage mother she was wounded but miraculously survived this genocide. [...]
Abstract Onions, from Giant Dwarf on Flickr.
